The history

The origin of Tarragona's devotion to the Virgin of Loreto dates back to the 16th century, when, having fallen seriously ill in Italy, Canon Pere Mir, promised, if he recovered his health, to acquire an image of that Marian devotion and to build a chapel in our city.


The place where this construction was built in 1542 is the same place where the Sanctuary is currently located, in a place where the hermits' cells were already standing in the 14th century. The love of the people of Tarragona for the holy image was manifested through numerous pilgrimages.


In 1740 the hermitage became the property of the Mitra. That construction was destroyed during the civil war of 1823. There were various restoration attempts, which did not culminate until 1957 with the construction of the current Sanctuary.

THE SERVICES OFFERED

24 hours a day and every day of the year, the Friendship Telephone (977 231 111) provides advice or help from the PP. Rogationists or their collaborators, the Friends of Loreto to those who feel pressured by a problem.

The Vocational Center, faithful to the spirit of "Rogate" inspired by Saint Hannibal Maria Di Francia, tries to promote priestly vocations among young Christians.

The Residence offers a comfortable stay for groups considering the possibility of holding meetings, spiritual exercises, get-togethers, etc. in the Sanctuary.
